Alright, everyone, it has been decided that Custom Quarters will continue it’s reign. With the new year we have new dreams for this blog, and with the addition of a new member (Dremoor), keeping CQ going will be manageable.

For this year we plan aiming for these goals:

1. run contests. It’s a chance for creative minds to push the limits for some nice rewards.
2. get people talking. Yap a little more, comment on things, praise things you like, diss what you don’t.
3. provide access to supplies. Just a few things to help you customize or get you started.
4. new bios. Since we’re getting to know you, you’ll be able to get to know us.

And also, keeping to what we do best:

Gotta hate Canadian weather. -30 something celsius and there’s nothin I’d rather do than make a nice post.

Say… has anyone ever got that lonely feeling whenever you’re deprived of your art?. No matter how many social festivities you’ve been to there’s always that void when you don’t do art right?. That’s how I’m feeling. And it sucks! I haven’t felt so empty in awhile. If you’re passionate about your art, art is your key to happiness. No matter how long you stop doing art for… you always come back to it. Be happy these holidays and stay inside if it’s too cold!

If you’re an artist, here are some tips for keepin happy these holidays:

- Grab yourself a warm drink. I’m not a scientist but studies have proven that even holding a warm drink is very comforting during stressful times. This is also helpful for those of you who are like me; needing to study for finals over the holidays. In fact, I’m gonna make myself a coffee right now.

- Try to stay optimistic by making yourself a list of holiday resolutions. Making yourself a list gives you goals and something to look forward to. After you’ve written your list, you can always add stuff to it but take a look. Imagine if you could accomplish all those things you listed, how awesome would that be? I know some of my goals this christmas is to lose about 5 pounds of chocolate I packed upon my hips and donating blood.

Today is Blog Action Day 2008. All blogs who are involved in this project will be making a post emphasizing poverty. We here at Customquarters have also decided to join the cause. So I thought, since we are running an art blog here, why not post some images emphasizing poverty?

Some of us can only imagine how devastating poverty is. For those who can’t, here are some images to help our understanding of the situation. You could even take a stroll on the streets and it is evident yet so many of us ignore the homeless, the starving and the lost. I ask you, if you have no money to contribute to the homeless, treat the person like a human being and acknowledge them. Educating each other and contributing to non-profit organizations is the best thing you can do to help.

I don’t know what else I can do but sincerely apologize for the lack of consistency and content on this blog on my part. I have been struggling with my PC for days now. Every now and then you gotta pay homage to some old skool throw backs that get a snazy update. New Balance is kicking off its 20th anniversary of their 576 model with a wicked design aspect. These shoes are based off the Chinese Opera, with 4 versions of these Kicks featuring traditional Chinese artwork and some crazy details. Personally I doubt I could even rock these, I would strictly showcase them. But heeeey that’s me, I don’t know about you….

Photographer Lyle Owerko recently took a moment to travel back to the fable 80’s and 90’s with a series of photographs which document numerous different boomboxes which were such a popular commodity durring the days of the B-boys and B-girls. I mean honestly if you didn’t rock your adidas track suit with the kango and the Bangin Box on your shoulder then you wasn’t reppin right. But that’s besides the point at the moment. Forreal, dude has a 15 image series of hot brands of the time to some that ended up being nothing more then landfill patrons but whatever, enjoy the throw back moment, ya Dig?

I am very sorry for delaying certain artists but I have to do an extra special feature on a particular individual: Itsmisterchristopher. He is one of my favorite artists. Although he has not been too active lately, I absolutely adore this guys work. Plus he’s got such an awesome personality. Misterchristopher is an artist who is absolutely fantastic at what he does. Expressing so much life in his character with so much skill. I wish there were more works out there up to his quality because it’s just so stunning to see realism incorporated with graffiti in this manner.

Unfortunately, he has had a couple struggles with the public accepting his work and he writes about it in his Deviantart journal:

“I can’t do it anymore. My spirit is broken. Not only am I a failure of an artist in town, but I am out of state as well. My last 4 or 5 shows have been a disaster. I can’t take the stress and discouraging response anymore. I’m coming to realize I can’t and am not meant to be a successful artist.

Thinking about painting make me sick to my stomach. I don’t even want to pick up my paintings from the galleries. I couldn’t care less what happens to them.

I took this photo a couple days ago in my home town Edmonton. I believe this is the “HR Crew” in Canada. Correct me if I’m wrong. I’m really diggin the colors. Real crisp lines as well. The trains in my area sit around for a little while so I’m not exactly sure how often I can post train graffiti but I’m guessing once a week. : )

Now when people think of toys, they usually think of legos and G.i. joes and barbies dolls,
but in actuality a lot of people don’t know about the those rare joints that come from the land of the rising sun. One of them rare gems comes from Tim Tsui of Da TeamBronx, a figure artist and Illustrator. The man has done countless exhibitions, he was even a guest speaker at Toyzworld. Dude has done work with so many major brands ranging from Adidas(Personal fave), MTV, coca-cola, Tower Records, Magazines galore. Personally his figures are something so hood with a Japanese flare its out of control. What collector wouldn’t kill to have one of his figures sitting along an army of Munnies? Or even Bearbricks along with some killer Juke-bots….

Fantastic photography of amazingly detailed works. I know if I was goin for a walk and I saw that graff on a wall I would totally whip out my camera then stare at it for awhile. Now Andy Monks here has an extremely unique style I don’t see too often at all. The placement of his characters in these crazy atmospheres is just so unique. I’m especially diggin the tri-tentacle creature as well as the poor dude who’s gonna get eaten up. Absolutely interesting art to look at.

Hey there! Thanks so much for supporting Custom Quarters. We have been running this blog for about 2 months now and it’s already gotten over 2000 Hits. Graffiti is a very under appreciated art form and yet it delivers so much expression and emotion. These artists are not vandals, but painters and story tellers. Such a stylized and envied form of art yet frowned upon by the general public. These artists’ works bring the streets and neighborhoods to life. Adding life to a world which has become so monotonous. Through words, shapes, and colors, a lifestyle is represented.

Before a year i saw some stickers of Obey and I was curious who is that guy and how the hell he is everywhere. Thats how i got inspired to make my stickers. Now I’m happy doing it, putting happy faces and funny stickers around, trying to make people smile and stop thinking street art is some kind of plague for they’re “clean town.”

“Long ago, when the world was young, and the universe was ruled by and infinite and wretched nothingness – a prophesy was made that one day a triumphant hero would roam these ancient fields of gold and unite the world as one. Unfortunately, the ancient, bearded gods of old mother earth didn’t ever know what they where talking about and on september 30th, in the mid 80s – i was bore onto this mortal coil naked and covered in poop. My birth was such an affront to the world order that it created a rift in the space time continuum in which I was banished to the paleolithic era where I learned to paint and draw by sweaty, bearded cavemen. After returning to the 90s, i wore acid washed jeans and listened to a lot of rage against the machine and primus to fit in with everyone and eventually started doing artwork as a living somehow. I love heavy metal, pizza, and cute puppies.”
